Argumentative Essay on Cell Phones
Cell phones: is there really a health risk?
In this high tech 21st century that we live in there have been numerous advancements to help us in our everyday lives. One of these things is the cellular phone. Everywhere you look, from school kids to top executives it seems like in our world today everyone has one of these devises. It is true that having a cell phone is very convenient and helpful most of the time such as emergencies, but not everyone knows of the potenial negative impacts theses phones have on our lives. In the past several years there have been numerous studies looking into this possible problem, common courtesy, theoretical health risks and harmful car accidents. Many have come to the conclusion that it is false and there is no risk behind using a cell phone, but there are others who continue to say that the risks are very high. I myself do not believe that cell phones pose a serious health risk like cancer and brain tumors just as long as they are used properly.
The problem starts with people forgetting common courtesy. Ithappens all the time when your in a intimate dinner convertation at your favorite resturant, when a personalized cell.

In the past few years there have been court cases against cell phone companies stating that the phones caused substantial damage. One such case was A Maryland neurologist named Dr. Christopher Newman who filed an $800 million lawsuit against Motorola Inc., Verizon Communications Corp., Bell Atlantic Corp., Bell Atlantic Mobile Systems, Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems, just to name a few.(CNN.com 6/22/01) These are very large companies, and a lawsuit coming from a very educated man. But the question is, is there enough evidence to prove that the radiation from his cell phone is responsible for his malignant brain tumor. This case as well as a handful of others where thrown out due to the lack of evidence. Yet if there are this many people filling suits, there is definitely a need to investigate and look further into this supposed problem. People such as Dr. Newman say that only two minutes of exposure to emissions from mobile phones can disable a safety barrier in blood causing proteins and toxins to leak into the brain, which could increase chances of developing Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's as well as brain tumors. (Scientists at Sweden's Lund University) Scientists say exposure to the phones' low-level radiation causes red blood cells to leak hemoglobin and can lead to heart disease and kidney stones. Recent studies suggest that there is a link between cell-phone use and brain tumors, and the possibility that the microwaves are the cause but the studies were never concluded due to the time period need to conduct the study.
On the other hand there are several sources that dismiss these accusations of the dangerous cell phones as rumors, it is just simply a way for people to make money some say. Understandably the majority of those individuals who say that cell phones are 100% safe are the owners of the cell phone companies. Of course they don't want to loose sales due to this possible problem. Look around as I stated before cell phones are everywhere, these companies would loose millions if any of these major health problems was confirmed. Recent research is confirming there is no scientific evidence to indicate health hazards from wireless communication devices, provided safety recommendations are met, says one of Canada's leading experts on electromagnetic fields. While strong fields can produce biological effects in the human body, radio-frequency devices, including cell phones, base stations and modems, produce very low fields and are not associated with health problems, Dr. Maria Stuchly (PhD) told the International Conference on Electrocardiology, Vectorcardiography and Bioelectromagnetism (Susannah Benady Aus "The Medical Post" (Kanada) vom 16.07.02:)
Through research I have concluded that it is true that cell phones do admit a certain amount of radiation that has been recognized by cell phone companies, by they state that it is at a level so low it can not harm the human body, such as household microwaves. It is very easy to understand why people would try this claim for personal gain. Although most results are inconclusive, I think it is safe to say that for the time being cell phones are safe and will continue to be used.

What Aspects do You Need to Mention While Conducting a Research?
There is a scheme how to complete a paper. The fact is that some people find devices helpful, other disruptive. Start writing an argumentative paper on cellular phones with describing a problem and its influence on your surrounding or everyday life. Do you need a translator but a teacher doesn’t allow you to turn on the mobile? Do you want to make photos of a blackboard? This is a good start for your essay on the impact of cell phones.
Describe Both Points of View
Admit your addictedness. Explain how often you are using your phone and why. Try to be honest. Do you experience negative affect? Try to understand why such devices might be dangerous and start to write an essay on cellphone addiction. You must find arguments for both sides and compare them.
Negative Arguments and Concerns
Here are some examples of disadvantages:
- The mobile phone is disruptive.
- Concentrating on the subject is hard.
- Students are chatting instead of learning.
- Students are playing games instead of studying.
- Students are making noise and disrupt other students.
- Students fail in respect for teachers.
Choose a few examples, which happened to you personally, and describe it in details. Then think about the influence it can cause for study or give some examples of failure. Try to formulate your opinion. If the task is to write an essay on negative effects of cell phones, then a paper must end here with a conclusion where is stated that positive effect also exists.
The question is ‘should cellphones be allowed in schools?’ and it is necessary to provide advantages on using modern devices during the study. Here are a few examples:
- Cell phones involve online translators that are required for foreign language learning.
- There are calculators for math and algebra.
- Students can copy the information fast by making a photo.
- Students can make an audio record of a lesson and repeat it at home or send a friend who missed a course.
- A student can immediately add bookmarks of relevant web pages for study.
Good argumentative essay on cell phones should not be allowed in school, but it must contain supportive arguments for both viewpoints. Show that you can analyze all information and accept the opposing arguments in spite of the fact that you support one of them.
Show the highlights in conclusion. After the comparison of the arguments express your opinion and include dangers, which can be caused by mobiles in school. This is not a research paper. The requirements are not strict, so it is acceptable to express an opinion. Try to show that you need your device and prove it with a qualitative essay.
